Kia Māhora, Kia Wātea, Kia Rere!

16 October 2026 - 9 May 2027

The title comes from three te reo words: māhora, meaning to spread out or open up; wātea, meaning open, free, full of possibility; and rere, meaning to fly or to flow. Those ideas, opening up, freedom and flight, sit at the heart of the exhibition's exploration of connection, whakapapa and potential. It features Turumeke Harrington, Tia Barrett, Ngaumutane Jones, Kate Stevens West, Te Moana nui a Kiwa Rehu Ryan, AJ Manaaki Hope, Conor Clarke, Emma Hislop and Ana Hislop, plus guest works from Francine Spencer, Ross Hemera and Nathan Pōhio. The exhibition runs right through to May.

D.C. Turnbull & Co. Ltd and South Canterbury Art Society Exhibition and Awards 2026

17 October - 15 November 2026

The South Canterbury Art Society’s annual exhibition and awards return to the Aigantighe, continuing a long-standing relationship with the Gallery. Around 100 works are on show, all from local artists, showcasing the range of art being made across the region today, from well-known names to newer artists just starting out. It's a highlight on the local arts calendar each year, bringing together the local creative community in one place.

Marumaru

20 November 2026 - 28 February 2027

Marumaru means shade, a place of shelter and protection from the sun. This exhibition treats shade as more than the absence of light, asking what it means to protect knowledge and allow some things to remain concealed. In a Māori worldview, knowledge isn't always meant to be shared with everyone; it is held carefully, within relationships. The exhibition invites slower, more attentive looking, rather than everything being laid bare at once. Artists include Megan Brady, Reuben Paterson, Caitlin Donnelly, Emma Kitson, Chevron Hassett, Arapeta Hakura, Lonnie Hutchison, Turumeke Harrington, Nathan Pōhio, Ana Iti, Nikau Hindin, Brett Graham, Francine Spencer and Fiona Pardington.
